A selection of some of the best websites for information on Caravan and the Canterbury music scene in general.

Music Links

Other Progressive Rock Bands
(list taken from the Progressive Rock Musician Activity Pages - ProgMAP, with thanks)

  • Arena : The big boys of the UK prog scene.
  • Audience : they're back- only 30 years absence! As they're from Kent, some might argue there are natural links with Caravan. See also what the individual members have been up to, including Keith Gemmell, Howard Werth and Trevor Williams
  • Big Big Train : A 5 piece from Dorset with 3 CDs out so far.
  • Chalice : New prog/world music band from Essex, currently promoting their first CD.
  • Galahad : They've produced CDs, but I've never heard them.
  • Glacier : Long-lived but intermittent northern band offering a retrospective recording.
  • Grey Lady Down : Popular neo-prog outfit, now disbanded after 5 CDs.
  • Haze/World Turtle : Those ever cheerful McMahon brothers.
  • IQ : The other big boys.
  • Jadis : Another in the neo prog mold. Pretty good live.
  • Janison Edge : Shadowland/Credo/Landmarq/Medicine Man spinoff.
  • Jennie Holland : Gently progressive music in an Enya meets Renaissance vein.
  • Karda Estra : Beautiful progressive and cinematic music with strongly featured chamber instruments.
  • John Young : Busy keyboard player involved in a few prog-ish things. (Greenslade, Fish, Qango).
  • Landmarq: Around some time now and a band who have a groundswell of support due to the quality of their live performances and many recordings
  • Guy Manning : Ex PO90 member doing his own thing.
  • Mark Horgan : Musician, poet, artist. Worth exploring further.  Several tracks to listen to.
  • Mother Back Cap: Norwich Prog rockers. Just formed but with bags of promise, based on the initial recordings. Fans of Caravan, which shows good taste and has to be a plus!
  • Mr So & So : I've not heard them, but I've seen rave reviews.
  • Naked Angel: gigging mainly in the south east
  • Nick Magnus : Ex Enid, Autumn, Steve Hackett and solo keyboardist extraordinaire. Nice chap, too.
  • Parallel or 90 Degrees : Floydy, VDGGish prog rock from Yorkshire.
  • Phil Mercy : Absolutely blistering guitarist and all round fine fellow. (I'm recovering from the blisters, thanks.)
  • Qadesh : The one sample on their site makes me think of early Gentle Giant meets Hands crossed with Lizard era King Crimson, but without being derivative. Very different from anyone else around in the UK at the moment.
  • Regenesis : Inspiring Genesis tribute band, well worth seeing.
  • Sphereł : Funky fusion food based prog.
  • Stephen Caudel : Guitarist in Scotland who does stuff with orchestras. Soundbites available.
  • Strangiato : Rush tribute band from up north.
  • S.w.a.m.p. : Interesting sounding band based in Cambridgeshire.
  • Tale Music Group : These guys specialise in rock operas.
  • Tantalus : Max Hunt's 7, no 5, no 6, no wait... n piece band. Smooth 'n gentle prog.
  • The Enid : Love 'em or hate 'em, you've just got to love 'em.
  • The Floyd Project : 9 piece Pink Floyd tribute band from Sussex. The site has a useful critical Venue Listing page.
  • The Morrigan : Folky, but with prog leanings. Think Gryphon meets Steeleye Span and Horslips and mutate it a bit.
  • Thieves' Kitchen : A band with something a little different to offer. Second CD 'Argot' now available.
  • Tobes of Hades: Scottish Rush tribute band
